What do i do if i don't want the title for a parts car to be scrapped?

I am purchasing a parts truck to pull the motor and transmission from to put in another truck i have. The parts truck is a 1986 F250, and its body is only worth scrap metal. I plan on also removing the axles to hang onto, and after that, all that's left is a rusty frame, springs, and a rusty cab and bed. The front fenders are already gone.

The guy selling it to me has the title and insists on transferring it to me, but as i plan on never EVER driving or licensing this vehicle, do i just take the title and never sign it to my name? Or do i need to sign it to my name, so once i've stripped the truck to its frame and worthless parts, ready for the scrap metal scale, i can then sign the title over to the junkyard?

How do i buy this vehicle and part it out, leaving scrap metal that i'm not sure even is worthy of holding a title? Does the title go on record as "DESTROYED" and all i have is simple steel, or does my scrap iron still need me to pay for plates until it hits the heap?

Unless you transfer the title to YOU, you never own the truck. If you destroy the truck by pulling parts off it, legally, it will look like you trashed someone else's truck.

Accept the title. Then, you can take it to the registration's office and tell them the car has been destroyed.

One of the reasons why the seller is insisting he transfer the title is, unless the transfer happens, he legally owns the truck. If you hurt yourself or someone else with the truck, he is legally liable.
