Is a bottle made up of plastic #7 that does NOT contain BPA still potentially harmful?
The 32oz Wide Mouth - Everyday Nalgene bottle is made of plastic #7, but does not contain BPA. Would that still be potentially dangerous? I understand that a lot of people are just making this a huge deal and plenty of people have been fine who have been drinking out of #7 plastics for their wholes lives, but I'm just wondering. Is there something else bad about #7 plastics? or are most people just concerned about the BPA in the #7?
I'm thinking about just getting a Stainless Steel Bottle from Klean Kanteen (http://www.kleankanteen.com/2products/klean-kanteen-40oz.html), but I tend to drop things a lot so I'm not so sure how that would go over with me...
The #7 resin ID code is for "other." It depends on what it is and the liquid you plan to use whether or not anything might leach out. Nylons are in the #7 category and do reaction slightly to acidic solutions. You'll need to contact the manufacturer and ask exactly what the plastic is. If it is polycarbonate, that is one of the most durable materials out there.
