How can I teach my baby how to drink from a sippy cup?
My son is 6 months old and breastfed -- he refuses to take a bottle, so now that he's eating solids, he needs to learn how to drink from a sippy cup to get additional liquids. He can sit unsupported and hold a cup, and he understands what a cup is (he reaches for our drinks and can drink very small amounts from a cup with help), but when it comes to a sippy cup, either the flow is too fast and he chokes and sputters, or we've tried the ones with a valve where liquid only comes out if you suck on it, but he doesn't understand he needs to suck and he just bites on it. How can we teach him how to drink from a sippy cup? Thanks!
Try a nuby sippy cup. They are awesome they feel soft to the touch. They are like a nipple but have a wider mouth piece. check it out at http://www.nuby.com/Nuby.aspx#header I have trained many children in the daycare I worked for to take a sippy cup and this is the best by far. The trick is to be consistent. By a week most six month olds adapt easily to the nuby nipple. Good luck.
