The torrential hail and winds trashed our car, leaving the neighborhood looking awful.

5. expedient [ik-spee-dee-uhnt] n. a good resource.

It takes a long time to get to the fifth floor by stairs, so the elevator is a useful expedient to reach our hotel room quickly.

In the last one, surely "to get" is not allowed, try "arriving at the 5th by stairway.............the rest look OK to me
