I need to know what kind of Power Cord to use?
i have a 1625 watt air conditioner i want to plug in to a 13 amp or 14 amp extension cord and i was wondering if these were safe enough to use
You can try the extension cord if you want. As already noted, 12 or gauge larger, and as short as possible.
In my neck of the woods, it is very common for most of the lights and receptacles in a house to be on 15amp circuits. This means that you have 1875 watts available to use on that circuit (+ or - a little, depending on the actual voltage being supplied by the utility). You say the the A/C will use 1625 of those watts. Some simple math should tell you that there will not be much left to operate whatever else is already on this circuit.
With that said, the problem that you are likely going to have is a tripping circuit breaker. This will not be a problem with the breaker. It will be doing exactly what its manufacturer designed it to do...prevent you from overloading the wiring on the circuit and save your life.
You really need to have a new circuit and receptacle installed. It needs to be located close enough to avoid using the extension cord. The new circuit and receptacle should be 20amps, 12 gauge wire, and should not be used to operate anything else. If you check the manual for the A/C unit, I'm pretty confident that it will recommend the same thing.
