How do I get around my 97 Pontiac Sunfire's anti-theft?

I just bought a 97 Pontiac Sunfire two days ago and everything was working perfectly. Now for some reason today after I had already driven it, the anti-theft kicked on and won't shut off. I can no longer start my car. Everything else is working, just can't start it. It also says it's in reverse, even though I have it in park. Tried waiting, but that didn't work. Tried taking it out of park and then putting it back on park, but that didn't do anything. I'm not a big car person, I have no idea what to do. I really need to fix this, prefferably myself because I don't have enough money to take it in somewhere. Somebody please help!
Already tried to start it in neutral too.
Only one key made. Got it to start by opening the hood and touching starter with screwdriver, but it's still stuck in reverse.
Got it towed and tehy looked at it. It was the cable that connects the gear shift to the engine. It's fixed now. Cost quite a bit for something that simple though.

It more than likely wont start because it thinks its in reverse, figure that out first, a nuetral safety switch is how it knows what gear your in, you may be able to start it by moving shifter untill it reads neutral, but be careful, you might really be in drive when it reads neutral, did shifter read neutral? if so, try all different ranges, were you given more than one key? sometimes they had a key made but doesnt match you security, I'll teach you how to reset security but it had to be in park, and say its in park
