When is a toddler old enough to sleep in a bed with rails?
Instead of in a crib? I'm pregnant with my 2nd, and my 1st will be 22 months when the next is born. Will he still need a "toddler" bed?
Mine moved into a low toddler bed that didn't have rails - it was one of those that was probably 8 inches off the ground and we put a run next to the bed (just in case he fell out)
He moved into the toddler bed when he was 16 months because he would climb out of his crib, and that was not safe!!!
I got pregnant again later on, so when my son was about 22/23 months we moved him into a twin bed with a retractable rail that I bought at the store. (We had to move him because the toddler bed was all part of the crib - one of those fully convertible cribs.
My son loves the twin bed even more and had no trouble moving into it.
I read beforehand that they're ready for a twin bed when they can get in and out of the twin bed on their own. I think my son could manage without the rail, even, but I leave it on and up just in case. No harm in being extra careful!
Just make sure you do any bed-switching either a month or so before or a month or so after the baby comes - you don't want too much change going on when the baby's new.
