Is that clunk sound when applying the brakes, automotively fatal?
I have a 97 suzuki sidekick which when I apply the brakes at a fairly low speed, makes the clunk sound. Now it makes clunky scrape noises, sometimes when I let UP on the brake. Is it expensive surgery? And please don't tell me to throw the car away. I'm broke and getting another car right now is definitely out of the question. Thanks, you guys. Appreciate the help.
Sounds like your brake pads are worn out and the backing plates (metal) are contacting the rotors (also metal). This would create both these sounds.
I would not suggest you drive the car very far. Maybe from where it is now to a place you can get the brakes done.
You may also need a rotor as it probably has groves ground into it by now.
Best of luck.
