Can my Ford Festiva handle it?
Ok, so I drive a 1988 Ford Festiva. Its my baby, and I drive it to death. It has over 240,000 miles on it, and keeps going like the energizer bunny (I wouldn't hesistate to drive it cross country). It really just won't die, it's a tough little bugger... OK...so how much abuse can it take?... I want to get a small 500 lb-ish pop-up trailer to tow (I found a place that can attach a hitch for $200). I also want to put a bike rack on the back and roof rack for more storage. And there would probably be 3-4 of us for every trip. What do you think?
I say if you are looking to deliver this car to death's door do it, otherwise wake up and realistically look at what you are asking. you might be able to do a bike rack, but not more than that if you have 3-4 people and their bags. Even a small pop up is closer to 800-1000lbs. Do yourself a favor and buy a minivan if you need extra space. I've seen guys try to do what you want and it is not pretty- I agree, your transmission will not handle it.
