Is this an aprropriate theme for lord of the flies?
I need to write an important theme from the book and explain its significance. The theme should reflect a universal statement that the main character realizes or learns, Im going to put,
'Each person has an evil nature and is capable of committing heinous crimes. In this book, virtually every person fell to the level of Jack’s savagery except those that were able to see that evil such as Ralph, Simon, and Piggy. '
Would that work?
Yes, that is one of the most popular and commonly discussed themes of that book. You speak of the evil that is within each of the boys...to deepen your paper, you can discuss the way they look outside of themselves to find evil (the branches as snakes, the man in the tree as the beast and only Simon recognizes it as a rotting corpse). This, in essence, exemplifies human nature's tendency to find blame for our evils anywhere but within ourselves.
