Powerpoint 2007 - changing backgrounds on only one slide?

We are trying to change the background pattern of a slide in Powerpoint. We want them to all be different backgrounds. We put in the background we like for slide 1, but it applied that to all the slides. When we changed the background for slide 2, it changes it for all of them, including slide 1. Any suggestions?

follow these steps:
open your powerpoint, choose the slide that you want to change the background. on the editing section, right click at a blank place, choose " background " , a small winows pops up, click on the drop down menu, you can select to choose color or " fill effects" to set picture as background.
then click " apply", do not click " apply to all"
