Can a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer tow a 76 MustangII?
Well, to add extra detail, I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer without a Tow Package, just the Ball in what came built into the bumper, now U-haul says that this is not sufficient enough to tow a Dolly with, it has to be a full on hitch to the Frame.
So, long and short, I have a 76 Mustang II, without Engine/Trans/Drive line and completely empty.
Can I tow this vehicle on a Dolly just using the Bumper hitch that came stock on Mountaineers?
I have a 1999 Explorer. The rear bumper has a 3,500lb trailer weight and 350lb tongue weight capability. Since the car is without it's powertrain, you should be okay for now but I wouldn't make it a habit of doing that.
I understand what U-haul is saying, especially with towing a car, a frame mounted hitch is the way to go and purchasing one is a good investment. I plan on getting one soon.
