do i need a cdl for a 11200 gvwr truck and 15000gvwr trailer?
looking at other posts, i assume i need a cdl for pulling my race trailer. truck gvwr is 11200 and trailer gvwr is 15000. am i right or wrong?
define commercial. im just running the car on the weekends.
I have this argument with race trailer operators all the time.
You need a class A CDL. (and you need log books, medical cards, drug and alcohol testing, and a slew of other federal regulatory things)
Combination is over 26,000 pounds, and trailer is over 10,000
Reason: If you earn any money, prizes, or are sponsered in any way, then your racing is in the "furthurance of commerce" (see that word commerce?) your are driving for the purpose of commerce---commercIAL purpose (see the relation?)
Now, if you are the sole sponser for the car, and you do not win anything ever. then you may qualify for a NON-COMMERCIAL class A license (if your state has such a thing). We were told at our last update that the feds are pressuring states to eliminate these - even for farm vehicles.
