are donut tires universal?

I have a donut tire that fits my 2006 Chevy Cobalt and I am hauling a 1978 z28 (with a full bed trailer and a uhaul). The problem is the z28 has one flat/ruined tire. Rather than buy an entire new tire just to get it on the trailer, I would like to put the donut on the z28.

Anybody know if this would work? is it compatible?

I don't know the sizes off the top of my head but everything is standard for the make/year.
If it won't work.. any suggestions?

It has the match your bolt pattern. Is it a 4 bolt or 5 bolt? (How many lug nuts are there?) Also do they line up to the axle. The only way to really know is to take the damage wheel off the car and put the donut on. You are not driving the car so there is no real danger on the size at this point. When you do drive the car, size will matter as it affects the handling of the car.
