What wide angle lens should I get specifically?

I currently shoot with a Canon EOS xsi Rebel. I'm looking to get a lens that will allow me to shoot at concerts where it's very dark. Correct me if i'm wrong but I believe a wide angle lens would allow that. I want to know what wide angle lens I should get. I'm looking for a price range preferably below $300 but if it is more I will have to make do. Specifics please.

I'm going to correct you, because you're wrong....

A wide angle lens will not do what you are asking, you need to look at a lens with a wider aperture. You have not said how far you are going to be from the stage?. Are you in the crowd at a distance or are you right at the front or even up on stage with the bands taking shots on behalf of them?. I'd have to recommend looking at a prime lens with an aperture of at least f/2.8, preferably in the range of f/1.8 or even f/1.4. For your rather tight budget you could look at buying second hand. You could purchase a Canon 50mm f/1.8 II brand new for around $150, a second hand Canon 35mm f/2 could be within your budget, my money would be on a second hand Canon 50mm f/1.4 (a great lens). This all of course depends on your distance from the stage and if you are taking official band shots or just snaps for your own personal use. A lens with a longer focal length or a good zoom lens with a wide aperture is well outside of your budget.

You could certainly compromise by upping the ISO a little on your camera, but only to a degree.
