Why am I seeing lower quality when connecting a MacBook Pro to a 46" LCD Samsung HD TV with DVI to HDMI?

I've tried all the monitor resolution settings on the computer - is there something I need to do at the TV end?

The TV is crystal clear for most things. The computer just doesn't look that great. Colours look a bit over rich, the sharpness just isn't there.....

Maybe if you put your MBP into "desktop" mode it'll sharpen up. If you don't know how, here's how... You already have it ran with DVI to HDMI so that's good. Make sure you have the resolution jacked all the way up (system preferences-displays). I hope you have a bluetooth keyboard/mouse cause your going to need them. While using your 46" Samsung as the monitor, turn on your bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Once they are connected & functional, get your MBP's remote in hand. Now close the MBP's screen. As soon as the TV's screen goes out, point the MBP's remote at the MBP and click the center play/pause button. Within a few seconds the TV's screen will come back on and it'll be in fullscreen. I've never been able to get the TV into fullscreen without putting my MacBook into desktop mode. I believe the screen is sharper/clearer in desktop mode too. Hope this helps.
