In North America colonial housewives are serving popcorn with sugar and cream for breakfast. The corn is popped by means of a cylinder of thin sheet-iron that revolves on an axle in front of the fireplace.

In Britain barley sugar sweets are being made. They are being sold in the form of twisted sticks and are thought to be helpful for getting rid of a winter cold. The word "hash" for a fried leftovers dish has come into English from the old French word hacher, meaning to chop. Corned beef hash has its origins in being a particularly delicious combinations of odds and ends.
I would have been quite happy in 1677 since I be likin me some good corned beef hash!
Bake, then fry (in butter) medium cut potatoes, fresh or spicy stewed tomatoes then move to the side of the pan, add butter and the corned beef; put a slight crust on the corned beef then mix the whole shootin match together and voila!
Basted eggs, toast from a good bread or better still, homemade biscuits. A proper English tea, really hot, with warm milk and splenda/sugar mix.
