Air conditioner and a 20 amp outlet?
So we just bought a huge 24,500 BTU air conditioner. Well before buying it my mother forgot to look to see if it was a 20 amp or a 15 amp. Well luckily the place we are planning on putting it is the only place in the house that has a 20 amp capable outlet...but the cord won't reach..and the extension cord we bought is a 15 amp...but then I went an bought a 20 Amp Extension Cord but the outlet isn't a three prong outlet, its only a two prong. They don't sell adaptors for the 20 amps due to blown circuits..what would your suggestion be?
You really need a ground wire hooking up an ac unit. You will probably need to call an electrician, or you could take off the plate of the 2 prong outlet to see if there is a ground wire already ran in there,(just not hooked up) in that case you could just replace the receptacle with a 20 amp 3 prong
